Bringing baseball back to Yakima

Unique opportunity for the players

Opening night arrives

When the short-season Class A Yakima Bears baseball team left after the 2012 season, many were left wondering when – or even if – another professional baseball team would call Yakima County Stadium home.

Two years later, baseball has returned to State Fair Park with the Yakima Valley Pippins of the college-aged unaffiliated West Coast League making their debut Friday against the Wenatchee AppleSox.

In this three-part video series, we take a look at the lead-up to opening night by following and interviewing members of the front office, coaches and players, and conclude with a behind-the-scenes look at that inaugural game.

Video shot, produced and narriated by Madison McCord. Additional footage provided by Kaitlyn Bernauer, and Herald-Republic archives.
